Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation

The Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation is a non-profit cultural and educational organization, based in Piraeus, Greece. Its aim is to promote Greek culture, both at home and internationally, and especially Greek letters and historical and maritime research.
Its Historical Library hosts and promotes the book and archival collections of important scholars and scientists. Today it consists of over 100 distinct collections and over 600,000 volumes, including rare materials, early printed books and incunabula.
The Foundation’s collection of incunabula derives from the two most prominent collections of the Historical Library: Bibliotheca Graeca (collection of Athanasios Oikonomopoulos) and the collection of the Foundation’s President, Panagiotis Laskaridis. It consists mostly of Greek or Greek-related editions, as well as of significant examples of Latin, medieval and later literature. It is currently the largest private collection in Greece and it is still growing.
While promoting its treasures and especially the Incunabula Collection, the Foundation has been recording its incunabula in the MEI database. It also organizes events, such as conferences and exhibitions, as well as publications on handling and promoting rare materials.
