Since the summer of 2019 we visit the Greek libraries that hold old materials and we record in detail their incunabula in the database Material Evidence in Incunabula, on behalf of the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation for the project 15cBOOKTRADE.
In this blog we will present in detail our visits to Greek libraries outside Athens, thus covering our need – from our very first trip to the Koventareios Library of Kozani – to find a platform that will enable us:
- – to share this unique experience with the wider bibliophilic public
- – to highlight the treasures of these libraries and to tell their unique stories
- – to discuss various issues around these incunabula, while posing, even briefly, questions that could potentially give the opportunity for more in-depth research
- – to publicly thank our colleagues in all the libraries who received us very willingly and hospitably.
We hope, therefore, that this blog, as a tool for publicizing the program undertaken by the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation, will play its part in the general discussion regarding old materials and early printed books, will bring us in contact with colleagues all over Greece and, who knows, maybe it will help us to discover incunabula whose existence is not currently known from the literature available so far.
