Short Description
The Vikelaia Public Library of Herakleion was established in 1908. Its first collection was bequathed to the town by the Greek businessman and scholar Demetrios Vikelas, after whom it is named. Today the library includes important archival material from the Venetian and the Ottoman domination era, as well as a large collection of some 35,000 printed materials, including an old and rare books section.
