The British School at Athens was founded in 1886 snd since then has acted as a focus for British research on the Greek world from prehistory to the present across a broad range of arts, humanities and social science disciplines. Its library, the core of which was the collection of historian and Philhellene, George Finlay, today contains over 70,000 volumes on relevant subjects. It also holds a collection of rare editions, including early printed books.
